Tips from the Community

August 26, 2026, Forêt des Géants

Forêt des Géants is a grove of mature hemlock trees within Parc Riverain, giving this area of the park an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. Its name fits the scale of the old trees towering overhead as the path winds beneath them, and is considered one of the park's must-see features. It's a lovely, quiet, shady retreat that contrasts to the open water views found elsewhere along the shoreline of the park.

Parc Riverain runs about 1.6 kilometres along the south shore of Lac Saint-Augustin and is a peaceful spot with panoramic views over the water in both summer and winter. The park includes diverse mix of habitat, including sugar maple groves, stands of white birch, and a large wetland with open stretches of shoreline that make it a great place to watch for waterfowl and other wildlife. There is direct lake access for hand-launched boats like kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes, so you'll likely see others enjoying the water in the warmer months while you're here.

Parc du Verger extends east from Parc Riverain along the south shore of Lac Saint-Augustin, built around a treatment marsh, a prairie, and a scattering of small fruit trees and shrubs that attract plenty of birdlife. It’s a more open, meadow-like stretch than the nearby forested grounds, with the marsh doing double duty as habitat and natural water filtration. As you explore, you’ll see interpretive signs from the local watershed council that explain the lake’s ecology and ongoing restoration work.
