This is a nice section of the trail to ride on. The double track has a compact grassland surface, with good views widespread. It is easy enough to ride through on dry weather days, but might be different when wet and mud are about

You may be forgiven for thinking you are in the set of Teletubbies, but this is in fact a National Nature Reserve. Hills & Holes was created through quarrying the limestone use to build Peterborough Cathedral. There are lots of trails to explore around the hills and holes, a really intriguing place.

When visiting Barnack have a look at the Hills and Holes National Nature Reserve on the south-west edge of the village. This is a former mediaeval quarry which is now hummocky grassland full of wild flowers in the summer. Stone from the quarry was used in Peterborough and Ely cathedrals, amongst others. The Barnack area is easily reached by a network of quiet lanes.
