Njegoš Mausoleum on Mount Lovćen

Highlight • Monument

Almost more arduous than the climb over about 350 steps, the approach is here: countless hairpin bends on partially poorly paved and very narrow streets. Who is traveling without small children can also from Kotor in 4-5 hours and over 13 km hiking or climbing

Lovćen Mountain Climb

Highlight • Climb

Incredible new road heading up to hilltop Mausoleum of Njegoš. Shooting up to over 1700m in elevation this is truly a spectacular ride. Keep in mind that the wind can get strong at the top and so be mindful about staying safe and warm. Especially if you are going to be coming back down the very fast decent. Not too much of an issue in the middle of summer.

Mausoleum of Njegoš Entrance and Tunnel

Highlight (Segment) • Monument

The tunnel was dug specifically to bring the 28-ton sculpture up the mountain. At that time, rails were laid for this purpose.

Entry 09/23: 8 euros

We tried to cross the river today (14.May), no chance. There is still a lot of melting water coming down the river.

Kotor Serpentine Road

I tried some routes that Komoot supposedly marked as suitable for MTB, but which I then gave up. If you are in good physical condition, tour by bike: via the main path from Kotor to the Njegoš mausoleum. Atmosphere like in the film Oblivion + mega panorama, with luck to Italy. The way down is a revelation! From Cetinje the way is not so hard. The best tour would be Cetjine - Njegoš Mausoleum - Kotor. There are opportunities to buy water along the route.
Entrance to Lovcen Park costs 2 EUR/nose.

Upper station of the Dub (Kotor) - Mount Kuk cable car in Lovcen National Park, which went into operation in August 2023. This exceptional cable car, which connects the sea and the mountains, offers impressive views and a height difference of 1,316m. Including a (quite expensive) summit restaurant with a fantastic location

Old Pass Road Near Kotor

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Here we leave the main road with a swerve, which leads further left into a tunnel and drive up the old pass road. With lots of curves, it winds up moderately and is excellent to drive. Then we come back to the main road, but at this time of year it is still several kilometers away from the top of the pass, which is served by the buses from Kotor.

October 7, 2025, River Crossing in Skadar Lake National Park

After two days of rainfall (7 october 2025) water seemed quite high. Had to take off boots and wade through knee-deep (or slightly more) water to get across (with long stick for balance given the flow velocity). Only recommended in dry summer periods or for adventurous types.
