The church in Lauterbach, the oldest church in the parish area, is mentioned in a document from the year 767. Berndorf is one of the oldest parishes in our diocese, to which the areas of Nussdorf (until 1683) and Perwang (until 1786) formerly belonged in their entirety. It is therefore understandable that to this day the "Unterberg" – the villages from Lauterbach to Kastenau in the Oichtental valley (municipality of Nussdorf) and Baumgarten (municipality of Perwang / Upper Austria) belong to the parish of Berndorf.
