Hertha
November 23, 2025, Landstuhl Train Station

Landstuhl station was opened on July 1, 1848, when the Kaiserslautern–Homburg section of the Ludwig Railway began operation. With the opening of the Landstuhl–Kusel railway line on September 20, 1868, the station became a junction. Since December 2006, it has also been a stop on the S1 line of the Rhine-Neckar S-Bahn. The station building was opened at the end of April 1846, two years before the station itself. Like many station buildings on the former Ludwig Railway – some of which have since been replaced – it features an Italianate architectural style. "The Fleischackerloch is a valley of rocky ruins where nature has preserved its originality. The large and, in some cases, meter-high sandstone cliffs in the Fleischackerloch date back to the Bunter Sandstone period and are approximately 200 million years old." Here, there is a "primeval forest-like old-growth tree population. The natural monument received its name from the leasing of the fields and meadows in the valley in exchange for meat." Whether this was a shortcut is debatable...most people are familiar with black Komoot trails. But it was definitely worth it!

A great trail. Although a little inconvenient for hikers who are not good at climbing over obstacles such as large ones. But a fantastic destination.
