The Catholic Katharinenkapelle in Mindelheim, the district town of the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria, was built in 1606/07. The chapel at Memminger Straße 42 is a protected architectural monument. The octagonal central building with a roof turret has a connecting structure to the adjacent former sexton's house. A redesign took place in the first half of the 18th century. The west gallery was built around 1720/30. The two-column altar structure with the painting of the mystical marriage of St. Catherine of Alexandria was created around 1750. In the top section, in the form of a cloud and ray glory, stands the figure of the Archangel Michael. The pulpit is designed in the style of the altar. The Roman Catholic Herrgottsruhkapelle in Mindelheim in the Unterallgäu district (Bavaria) was built at the beginning of the 18th century and is a listed building. The chapel building stands halfway up the Katharinenberg on Memminger Straße. Before the chapel was built in 1718, there was a wayside shrine with a Herrgottsruh figure at this location. The St. Sebastian beneficiary Johann Hörmele (Hermele) had the chapel that still exists today built. The building was renovated in 1850 and again from 1954 to 1957. The building is designed as a longitudinal oval structure, which is oriented towards the south. Both inside and outside, the chapel is structured by partially red marbled Tuscan pilasters. The pilasters, decorated with entablature pieces, result in eight axes, the central axes of the long sides being wider. There are no pilasters on the sides of the altar. Inside, there is a flat, vaulted ceiling with eight web caps over semicircular shield arches. Recessed round-arched windows are present in each of the diagonal axes. The floor is laid with square slabs of Solnhofen limestone. The shingle-covered roof of the chapel is conically rounded at the narrow sides. Above the ridge rises the hexagonal open roof turret with an onion dome. Access to the chapel is via a segmental arched door in the northern apex. In front of it is the square and flat-roofed porch. There is a round-arched arcade on three sides. Above the cornice, the porch is covered with a hipped roof. The relief made of shell limestone depicting the Resurrection of Christ on the central axis of the east side was created in 1964 by Georg Bayer. In its place, a weathered fresco of a crucifixion group from the time of construction was uncovered in 1904. A sacristan's house is attached to the west side. This two-story building with a gable roof has been renovated. The stucco of the chapel is limited to picture frames and dates from 1718. In the vault apex, there is a curved field in the middle and four-lobed fields in the north and south. Smaller curved fields are in the spandrels. Georg Schwank from Mindelheim created the frescoes inside in 1957. They follow the remains of the original paintings from 1718. In the middle is the Eye of God with four angel heads, ... The Mindelburg is a landmark of the Upper Swabian town of Mindelheim in the Bavarian district of Unterallgäu. The Mindelburg is located about 850 meters south-southwest of the old town of Mindelheim on the Georgenberg, which is about 664 meters above sea level and slopes steeply into the Mindel valley on three sides. The castle can be reached via the state road 2518, which runs directly to the west. It was long assumed that the castle was probably built on the Georgenberg in the second half of the 12th century, but recent findings point to an earlier date. As early as 1125, "Heinrich von Mindelburg" is mentioned, which suggests that the castle is correspondingly older. It was destroyed around 1305 and rebuilt in 1370 under Duke Friedrich von Teck. In 1467, the Lords of Frundsberg took over rule of the town and the castle. The family became famous primarily through Georg von Frundsberg, the "Father of the Landsknechte," who was born here. As a field commander, he went into battle for Emperor Maximilian I and Emperor Charles V. In 1933, the National Socialist "Reich Peasant Leader" Walther Darré had the South German Peasant Leadership School established in the Mindelburg, which he opened with a large festival for the town of Mindelheim at the 1st Swabian Peasant Day on November 11, 1933. From 1949/50, the Mindelburg served as a military hospital and a hospital for the disabled. In 1950, it was rented to the W. Sachon publishing house; the lease ended on July 1, 2021, and the castle returned to the town of Mindelheim. The town plans to make the castle accessible to the public again after a restoration and to house the local history museum there. Likewise, the apartment of the deceased publisher in the castle, which dates back to the 1950s, is to be completely preserved and made accessible to the public. Since October 2021, the Mindelburg has been officially a "nationally significant monument" according to the State Office for Monument Preservation, placing it in the same category as famous structures such as Neuschwanstein Castle. The 24-meter-high keep with the attached stair tower can be climbed as an observation tower. Next to the tower lies the 27-meter-deep castle well. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindelburg
