An imposing building in a playful architectural style with half-timbered elements reminiscent of Hogwarts – Harry Potter sends his regards 😂 A beautiful park with mature trees is also part of the complex.

We particularly liked the baptistery. The bench in front of it is a nice place to rest.

The beautiful Cumberland Castle is located on a small hill, adorned with a park, promenade paths inviting for walks, above the natural jewel Krottensee. In 1882, Duke Ernst August (II), Crown Prince of Hanover, acquired a lot of land in the immediate vicinity of the Queen's Villa in the north of the city and had a magnificent palace built in the neo-Gothic Windsor style on the hill between 1882 and 1886. In 1886 the Guelphs moved into the extensive and magnificently furnished palace complex. From 1886 until his death in 1923, the palace was the seat of the exiled crown prince. His mother and some other members of the family are buried in a mausoleum next to the castle.

The single-nave, late-Gothic country church with its beautiful ribbed vault was built in the second half of the 15th century. The west gallery on a ribbed vault, the Gothic south gate with a vestibule and the north gate of the church are also preserved from this period. Other late Gothic elements: a sculpture of Saint Sebastian (around 1500) and some very fine panel paintings depicting various saints (around 1500).
