A fantastic piece of nature. Here, you can experience the very special characteristics of the local fauna up close, such as numerous pollard willows and also many poplars, mostly covered in tinder fungus. Due to their extreme water evaporation, these trees were often used to drain and dry out large areas, also due to their relatively rapid growth.

Worth seeing at any time of year. In the rainy season, however, the path can be quite muddy, so wear sturdy shoes or go barefoot. ☺️

Herbert Schäfer put an end to the discussions about the financing and economic viability of the bridge. As a major donor, he covered the entire cost of a new building. He also made it possible to buy and install a bridge guard, made from the wood of the previous bridge, which now symbolically watches over the new crossing.

According to tradition, Saint Pancras, to whom this chapel in Ossum-Bösinghoven is dedicated, was publicly executed at the end of the 3rd / beginning of the 4th century under Emperor Diocletian because of his Christian faith. The martyr's body was buried on the Roman Via Aurelia - in the catacombs later named after him - under the present church "San Pancrazio". The memorial day of Saint Pancras is May 12th, in popular piety he is one of the three so-called "Ice Saints", together with Servatius and Boniface (in some areas supplemented by "Cold Sophie" one day later).
