Michael (Wasi)
April 26, 2025, Goldfisch Tunnel Entrance (Station 7)

The "Goldfish" tunnel entrance, station 7 of the Goldfish Trail, marks the entrance to the underground production facilities that operated under the code name "Goldfish" during World War II. This entrance led to the gypsum tunnels, which were used to relocate war-critical armaments production. Aircraft engines were manufactured here under extreme conditions, often using forced laborers and concentration camp prisoners. In the front area, only a guardhouse with a warehouse was visible. An anti-aircraft gun was also installed here. The actual entrance was behind it.

With its 100 steps, which climb approximately 40 meters, it connects various stations on the educational trail and leads through the western slope of the Neckar River. Here, forced laborers had to drag items from the Neckar River, some of which were heavier than themselves, up the hill. Today, the steep steps stand as a memorial to the hard work and inhumane conditions under which forced laborers and concentration camp prisoners worked.

The transfer hall was part of the infrastructure used to transport the factory's materials and products. It was intended to serve as a storage and loading area to efficiently support production. However, it was never fully completed. Today, only its outline and the concrete pillars between the trees can be seen.

This bridge was part of the railway line, which was essential for the transport of materials and workers. It connected key points of the facility and played a central role in the logistics of armaments production.

At the end of the tunnel, which was part of the Heidelberg–Aglasterhausen–Mosbach railway line, the so-called "Finkenhof" station was built. This served as an important transfer station for people and materials transported to the two factories. The station building, which remained standing after the war, is now used as a warehouse. The tunnel entrance and the remains of the station are silent witnesses to the past and recall the logistical importance of this location during World War II.

Water was an essential component for the factory's operation and the supply of the workers. The water supply was ensured by an elaborate system that influenced both production and the living conditions of the forced laborers and concentration camp prisoners.

The kitchen barracks is part of the circular trail that connects the above-ground remains of the factory and sheds light on the history of the arms relocation as well as the living conditions of the concentration camp prisoners and forced laborers. The educational trail is thought-provoking and reminds visitors of dark chapters in history.

This barrack presumably served as an administrative building for the organization of factory work. Today, the foundation remains a silent witness to the past and is part of the stations documenting the history of forced laborers and concentration camp prisoners.
