An open border crossing just before the North Sea. Schengen is a reality here.

The Norddeich-Siltoft border crossing connects Germany with Denmark at its westernmost border post before entering the Rickelsbüller Koog and the connection between the Danish and German dikes. A disused barrier reminds us of the small post's operating hours, the equally small border house seems to be in a deep sleep, but it is not. It is open during the day and can be visited. It is heated and even has a clean toilet. I found shelter there from a rain shower and was able to view everything in peace. Outside, the view extends far over the Danish nature reserve Margarethenkoog to the north and the Rickelsbüller Koog on the German side. https://weites.land/grenzuebergang-norddeich-siltoft-grenzroute-daenemark-deutschland/

The Klanxbüll Church (Our Lady) in Klanxbüll, dating from the 13th century, is the only thatched church on the North Frisian mainland. The brick church, which is vaulted throughout, was built in the middle of the 13th century in the late Romanesque-early Gothic style. It consists of a two-bay nave, an almost square choir and a semicircular, vaulted apse. It is the only church on the North Frisian mainland to be thatched. Instead of a church tower, it has a bell tower with three bells that stands a little way off, which was renewed in 1907. During a major renovation in 1930/31, the outer walls were re-clad with bricks in monastery format. The small Romanesque windows were also reconstructed during this renovation. Only one window on the south wall retained the shape it had been extended in 1766. The oldest piece of equipment is a granite baptismal font, which may even be a little older than the church. The lid, which was used in earlier times to protect the baptismal water from contamination, dates from the 17th century. The church has a carved winged altar from 1520. The winged altar was renovated in the Baroque period and the figures were given their current form. In 1857, the dilapidated retable was replaced by a new altar retable with a carved depiction of the crucifixion. During the church renovation in 1930/31, the surviving figures of the old winged altar were renovated. The pulpit is from the Renaissance. It was created in the 16th century for the church of Volgsbüll on the island of Strand. This parish was submerged in the Burchardi flood of 1634. The Klanxbüllers bought the pulpit, which had been salvaged from the flooded church, in 1641 for 165 marks, as the church account book kept from 1636 records. The church did not have an organ until a used instrument was purchased in 1931 and installed on the newly built gallery. The current organ was manufactured by the Kemper company in 1972. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirche_Klanxb%C3%BCll
