A walk around Lake Nonnensee is always worthwhile, as is a detour to Bergen.

Very cute little harbor, the wooden jetty with stairs is particularly nice.

There are three free options for parking your car and then starting your hike: The official car park is at Stadthof (east of the lake), or you can park in Parchtitz (approaching from the west), or in the large Familia car park and then cross the B96 (this is how you get to the lake from the south).

You can hear and smell them from afar: the cormorant colony at Nonnensee. At the beginning of the 20th century, this bird was almost extinct; only the granting of protected status in the early 1980s enabled the population to almost fully recover. Since then, it has been regulated by natural predators and competition among itself. High up in the trees, they stack sticks and twigs to form nests, making a lot of noise. Fun fact: To enable the cormorant to reach its diving depth of up to 9 meters, its plumage is not oiled. Therefore, we see the birds in their typical posture, with their wings open, drying their feathers in the sun.

A very well-maintained and attractive equestrian facility, built in 2001. Around 30 horses from the Störtebeker Festival live here year-round with their trainers. These specially trained horses must have strong nerves. They are made bullet-proof using a blank-firing pistol and a smoke machine, and they must occasionally endure a rider "burning." During the festival season, participants are also accommodated in the accommodations.

The site has existed since 1810, was transformed into a landscape park in 1894, and is particularly noted for its botanical diversity and dendrological rarities. Some of the mighty, freestanding trees are true works of art and cut a fine figure even leafless.
