If you move upstream, you will find this small cave a few meters to the right of the path, where a Buddha statue once stood.

There were a lot of butterflies in the gorge. I suspect they were pearl-bordered fritillaries.

The Hirschbichl, also known as the Mooswacht, is a 1,183 m (3,700 ft) high mountain pass in the Berchtesgaden Alps. The pass lies directly on the border between Germany (Bavaria/Ramsau) and Austria (Salzburg/Weißbach bei Lofer). Since the 13th century, the Hirschbichl has been an important trade route (mule trail) for salt ("white gold") from Berchtesgaden and Schellenberg to Tyrol and the Pinzgau region in Austria. Due to its strategic location, a pass fortification (the so-called Mooswacht) and later a customs guardhouse were built here. At the border crossing, you'll find the historic Hirschbichl Alpine Inn in the former customs guardhouse, as well as a small chapel next to the inn, built in 1849 by the Hirschbichl Innkeeper.

Location On the old Hohlwegen road towards Salzburg, near the current Hotel Gut Brandlhof, stands the Brandlhof Chapel, built directly into the rock. History The chapel is believed to have been built in the 17th century. According to the Saalfelden Chronicle, it took on its current form in 1925, when the then administrator, Mr. Schwarz, had it remodeled. In 1930, the chapel received a mass license. The stone memorial plaque was dedicated by the Schmiedmann family. In 2014, the chapel was renovated by the owners of the Hotel Gut Brandlhof, Birgit Maier and Alexander Strobl. The pews and altar were added and repaired, the roof was rebuilt with larch shingles, and a drainage system was installed to divert mountain water from the chapel. Building The chapel, built on a rectangular floor plan with an apse, is made of brick and plaster, and, with its roof truss and turret, which are made of solid wood, reaches a height of 9 meters. The main roof, projecting far at the gable end, and the turret are covered with wooden shingles. Two latticed round-arch windows illuminate the chapel on the south side. The south-facing roof features a bat dormer. To the right of the chapel are two 1.75-meter-high obelisks, on which the years 1914 and 1918 are carved. The stone tablet attached to the rock between them contains the names of eight servants who fell in the World War 1914-1918. https://www.sn.at/wiki/Brandlhofkapelle
