Der auffälligste Hingucker in der 250 Jahre alten Dorfkirche ist nämlich die großflächig bemalte Decke aus Fichtenholzdielen. Eine Vision in türkis-braun und weiß-gold auf der beflügelte Engel über die gesamte Fläche verteilt schweben. Sie umspielen mit verschiedenen Instrumenten das zentrale Bild über dem Mittelgang. Es zeigt die Lobpreisung der 24 Ältesten vor Gottes Thron und dem Lamm – gemeint ist der gekreuzigte und auferstandene Christus – der allein würdig ist, das Buch mit den Sieben Siegeln zu öffnen und zu offenbaren, was noch geschehen soll. An den Seiten sind in goldfarbenen Lettern Namen von Würdenträgern vermerkt, die sich der Kirche, ihrem Bau und der Erhaltung verdient gemacht haben. So wurden beispielsweise „Jacob Strüben, Bevollmächtigter des Kirchenspiels“ ebenso wie „Willhelm Bardewick königl. BauInspecteur als Baumeister dieser Kirche“ verewigt. Dass diese um 1768 entstandene Deckenmalerei wieder sichtbar wurde, ist Pastor Dietrich Krüger (1959 bis 1972) zu verdanken, denn aus einem bislang nicht bekannten Grund, hatten sich die Kirchenvorderen 1861 entschlossen, die Malereien nicht mehr leiden zu mögen. Kurzentschlossen wurde alles in schlichtem Grauton übermalt und wäre fast in Vergessenheit geraten, wenn nicht… ja, wenn nicht Pastor Krüger 1965 im Rahmen der Innenrenovierung des Gotteshauses für die 200-Jahr-Feier ein kleines Stückchen des Farbauftrages über seinem Predigtplatz vor dem Altar hätte abkratzen lassen. Zum Vorschein kam eine mit weißem Strahlenkranz ummalte Taube und ein Geige spielender Engel. Man kann sich die Begeisterung in der Gemeinde vorstellen. Ein wiedergefundener Schatz in der Kirche! Es wurden Fachleute beauftragt, die die Deckenmalereien auf einem Gerüst und „über Kopf arbeitend“ in mühevoller kleinstflächiger Spachtelarbeit freilegten und restaurierten. Das Ergebnis ist noch 50 Jahre später ein Hingucker. Wobei wir wieder beim anfänglich erfragten Bedürfnis sind, sich der Länge nach hinzulegen um die Malereien ausgiebig anzuschauen. Vielleicht spendiert ja jemand eine „Engelgucker-Couch“ anlässlich des 250 Bestehens der Kirche, das im November dieses Jahres ausgiebig gefeiert werden soll.
