Very close to Rouen, in the heart of a bend in the Seine, in Saint-Martin de Boscherville, stands one of the most prestigious Romanesque abbeys in Upper Normandy. Nestled in the valley of the Seine, on the edge of the Roumare forest, Saint-Georges de Boscherville offers the purpose of visiting and walking in a site rich in a two-millennial past. - The abbey church, whose clarity brings out the purity, was built in the 12th century, and it has remained in a remarkable state of conservation. - The abbey estate, dominated by the imposing lantern tower, stretches over seven hectares. - The Benedictine abbey was built in the 12th century on a site where, since the 1st century BC, several buildings have been dedicated to pagan worship and then to Christian worship. - The chapter house, from the end of the 12th century, presents a remarkable set of statues-columns and historiated capitals. - The monastic building, built by the Maurist monks in the 17th century, has retained its elegant stone vaults. In 1998, the last major restorations of the abbey estate were completed, and since then the abbey gardens have been gradually restored to what they were in the 17th century. http://www.abbayesaintgeorges.fr/fr/home/
