Sljeme Summit and TV Tower

Highlight • Summit

Sljeme, at 3,396 feet (1,035 m), is Medvednica’s highest point ('sljeme' means 'summit' in Croatian). An icon of Zagreb, it's adorned by the OIV Tower, which is home to a panoramic observation deck for views across the Zagorje region and even as far as Slovenia's mountains. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the vicinity of the summit too.

Puntijarka Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The largest mountain hut on Medvednica, Planinarski dom Puntijarka was built by the Zagreb Mountaineering Association in 1954. It's also known as Planinarski dom Ivan Pačkovski (the Ivan Pačkovski mountain lodge), after the man who was so instrumental in its construction.

The hut can accommodate around 200 guests, while there's enough space outside to seat 300!

Grafičar Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Grafičar is a classic mountain hut serving good local food, such as Bosnian bean soup. It's located on the main Medvednica ridge and is ideally situated for those ascending via the beguiling fort at Medvedgrad. It's also just a short walk from the hut to Sljeme, Medvednica's main summit.

Queen’s Well (Kraljičin zdenac)

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Queen's Well is actually a powerful drinking water spring from King's Creek and is named after the legendary "Black Queen" (presumably Barbara Celjska, the second wife of King Sigismund of Luxembourg).

The spring and its surroundings were maintained in the 19th century, while Count Kulmer built a small artificial lake or fish farm with a lugarnica before World War II.

Risnjak Mountain Lodge

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Risnjak Mountain Lodge (724 m above sea level) is run by the Risnjak Mountaineering Association, of which the members of the band Cinkuši are an integral part today. Risnjak is open on weekends and offers food and drinks, but also accommodation by arrangement. Due to its popularity and proximity, they should go to lunch a little earlier, because they often run out of food by 2 pm. I recommend the excellent strudels and poppy seeds, which are perhaps the best I have ever eaten in mountain lodges and restaurants.

Risnjak was built by members of the society in 1955 and has maintained the authenticity of the mountain lodge to this day. It is located on a glade called Pongračevo. In the immediate vicinity is Pongračeva lugarnica. There are no views from the home due to the dense forest, but a beautiful view of Zagreb can be seen a hundred meters below the house on trail number 9 towards Mikulići.

This one of the old city gates into Old Zagreb. Just inside it has now been turned into a religious shrine with seated pews where many people come to contemplate and pay their respects so be silent and pass through quietly

January 26, 2025, Tkalčićeva Street

Pavla Radića Street, which we all call Radićeva Street for short, connects Zagreb's Lower and Upper Towns, and many often call it the most beautiful street in Zagreb. Why? You only need to walk down it once to get the answer to that question.

Tkalčićeva Street is Zagreb's main hub of cafes, restaurants and casual nightlife. Also known as Tkalča (Tkalcha).
