The nature reserve is truly amazing. I could have stayed here longer and listened to the frogs croaking.

The Wurfeld Castle was founded in the seventeenth century by two brothers who were canons at the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekapittel in Maaseik. They built the residence - which later became the castle - at the Saint-Laurentius chapel, which later became the Saint-Laurentius church. In 1900, the residence was expanded into a small castle with a beautiful park. Today it serves as a hotel and restaurant and a location for parties and meetings. I personally find some of the renovations less successful, but it is a very beautiful location with a beautiful park and some historic outbuildings behind the castle that are not really on a walking path. Even before the parking lot next to the castle, there is a larger parking lot past the gate at the end of the driveway. You can park there for the walk and you will find information boards and the official start of your walk. At the entrance to the castle you will find a sculpture by Jean Van Wierst that was given the name "Dark Sky".
