In the years around 1670, Queen Charlotte Amalie established a number of carp ponds in the area west and south of Bagsværd Lake. The queen who was very enterprising provided the ponds Store and Lille Hulsø, Tuedam, Kobberdam, Nivedam and Kobberdammene. Then she rented the ponds away at the same time to secure a part of the farm. The carp had come to Denmark approx. 100 years earlier and originally originated from Asia. The carp can only breed if the temperature is high enough.
