Valbona Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Think of a sun hat, at 38 degrees we had sunstroke and take enough water with you - after the last café before the summit there is no more water source for about 6KM ... in the heat ...
Sometimes very steep climbs are good if you've trained 🤪 but it's worth it 😇

You can enjoy a great view in one of the two restaurants just above the Blue Eye. The spot shortly before at the last bridge is better suited for swimming.

Peja Pass (Qafa e Pejës)

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Accessible from Theth after a steep climb in 1.5-2 hours, from the pass you have a great view of the surrounding peaks, the Theth Valley or the nearby Pejasee. In the summer, shepherds and their herds are up there. In 4 hours you can walk from there to Montenegro.

Rozafa Castle

Highlight • Castle

The legend of Shkoder: Rozafa Fortress

High up on the southern edge of the city lies the Rozafa Fortress. The castle is one of the city's most important sights. Legend has it that three brothers wanted to build the fortress together. But every night the walls that they had so laboriously built during the day collapsed again. Then an old man gave them some advice. A woman had to be walled in; that was the only way they could finish building the walls and they would last forever. The three brothers discussed it and came to the conclusion that they wanted to sacrifice one of their wives, namely the one who would be the first to bring them lunch the next day. But the two eldest brothers did not keep their agreement and warned their wives. So it came to be that the young Rozafa, the wife of the youngest brother, was the only woman to appear at the construction site of the fortress. Rozafa bravely accepted her fate, but on one condition: she asked the brothers not to wall up one breast, one arm and one leg, so that she could continue to breastfeed her little child, caress it with her hand and rock the baby's cradle with her leg. Most of the castle's buildings were destroyed over time, but the wall still stands in Shkoder - solid and indestructible.

October 17, 2025, Theth Church

Thethi Church is one of the most impressive buildings in the village, set amidst a beautiful and expansive meadow in the center of the village. Some impressive old linden trees nearby add a lovely natural element to the church's landscape. The old church of Thethi was built in 1892 on the same site as the current one. It had a simple rectangular design with an apse behind the chancel.

Currently, the road is a complete construction site (the "road" is being widened), and this will likely take quite a while. Many sections are pure gravel!

Beautiful, but extremely long and quite trafficked at time (which can be a bit annoying due to the sandy road)

The Kulla e Ngujimit, an escape tower where those threatened with blood feud take refuge. (It's a terrible thought to have to hide there for an extended period of time, because otherwise you'd die...!)

We didn't quite understand why the Blue Eye was so popular. We found the area 300m before the Blue Eye (by the bridge) much nicer and more relaxing. Nevertheless, despite the freezing, wet temperatures, many people lingered below, and some even dared to jump into the icy water.

The road is indeed terrible but it offers a beautiful view on the lake.
