you may have to get off the bike at some point as there is a pretty steep slope. Also be mindful it gets pretty muddy when it rains

Bristol is a hilly city, making it a good place to run if you're looking to improve your hill fitness. However, sometimes a nice flat run is just what the doctor ordered. One surefire way to find a flat run is to follow the River Avon. You can follow the river all the way from the village of Pill by the Severn to the cusp of the Cotswolds in Bath should you choose.

Hailed as Bristol's best-kept secret, Beese's is a wonderful riverside bar with a large, charismatic and sunny beer garden overlooking the Avon. It’s something of a Bristol institution. The bar opens from spring to late summer every year and serves good food and drink. You can catch the occasional gig here, too. Access is via the Conham River Ferry (directly across on the opposite bank) for £1, which travels whenever people need it. Alternatively, you can head round to Eastwood Farm. The large meadow next to Beese’s is the ‘Costa del Bristol’ — a popular wild swimming, sunbathing and picnic spot that is brilliant on a summer afternoon.

Nightingale Valley is a hidden gem in this part of Bristol. The area is composed of mixed woodland and small fields with the Brislington Brook flowing through its heart. There are lots of trails to explore along the valley bottom and along its steep sides. Nearby St Anne’s Wood makes for a great extension if you are exploring.

St Anne’s Wood is a magical, peaceful and little-known woodland tucked away near Brislington. A brook flows through the middle of the steep-sided woodland, which is alive with wildlife and nature. In the valley, there is a small meadow that contains St Anne’s Well, a Holy well that pilgrims once travelled to.
