Also known as Royston Heath, Therfield Heath is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a nature reserve on the chalk escarpment above the town of Royston. Trails here offer glorious views across the valley of the River Cam. The open ground here was a regular haunt of King James I, who would visit the region to hunt.

September 12, 2021, Barkway Milestone

The last in a series of mile markers running from Great St Mary’s Church in Cambridge to Barkway, 16 miles away. These were erected in the 1730s, the first milestone series erected in England since the departure of the Romans. Most are still visible between Cambridge and Barkway if you know where to look.

Nice pavilion cafe which is a good stop off before/after hitting the hills above Royston.

I rode this today with my 10 yo son. We both loved it! There’s a bit of everything from tarmac, wooded paths, some ascent where we pushed the bikes and some descent where we went too fast downhill. Nice length. Great views 😄
