The Japanese Friendship Garden is located on a rocky island in the Snake River in Idaho Falls. It was made by volunteers to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the association between Idaho Falls and its sister city of Tokai-Mura. The garden creates a Japanese atmosphere in the middle of Idaho, with the Japanese architecture, small water streams, a deck and a platform. It is a small space, and not ideal for a bike, but if you want to pass by to visit, you can go walking with your bike.

A large river with a modified urban waterfall, surrounded by different species of plants composing the landscape near the river and the trail. This is one of the most tourist spots in Idaho Falls, with lots of restaurants around, nice gardens along the trail, and a public library close by. Yes, Iona offers several walks suitable for families. The island's terrain is generally gentle. The walk across the machair is relatively flat and engaging for all ages.
Dogs are welcome on most paths in Iona, but it's essential to be mindful of the natural environment and farming activities. The island has areas of open machair and farmland where livestock may be grazing. Please keep your dog under close control, especially during lambing season in the spring, to protect both wildlife and farm animals.
The hike up DΓΉn I, Iona's highest point at 101 meters, is a short but rewarding climb. The path can be boggy and requires some light scrambling over rocks, so sturdy footwear is recommended. From the summit, you are rewarded with spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the entire island, the Abbey, and the surrounding sea and islands.
