The name Gravelotte has a historical origin. In 1870/71 there was a battle in Gravelotte, France. Three men from the village of Meesiger took part in this battle. After returning safely, one of the three men, Fritz Ewald, bought 28 acres of hilly land with his military pay and built a rest house in the Swiss country house style. In doing so, he laid the foundation for tourism. On August 18, 1873, the name day of the Battle of Gravelotte, the inn was inaugurated. In memory of the Battle of Gravelotte, it was christened Gravelotte and registered.

Super nice people with great tips. A real recommendation here is to rent a canoe or kayak. There are tours to the water hiking rest stop 8 km away, to Demmin or a 5-day tour on offer. The rental takes care of the return transport. Individual paddling is also offered.
