If you are leaving from Porto Pollo, I think it is unwise to do this route with children. Average speed is about 3 km/h.

The Campomoro Tower, built in the 16th century by the Genoese, has much more to offer than its 15 m height - making it the highest in Corsica - its uniqueness is due to its fortifications in the form of a star-shaped ring wall. After restoration in 1986, it became home to the "Conservatoire du Littoral", the coastal conservation office. On the first floor, a permanent exhibition tells the story of the Genoese towers of Corsica and the Berber invasion (drawings by Rafaelli). It is managed by the main tourist office of the Sartenais Valinco Taravo. Open from April to October and outside this period by reservation. Admission: 3.50 € - free for children under 12.

While the routes listed are generally moderate and require good fitness, families with older children who are accustomed to hiking might enjoy the shorter Vue depuis les falaises – Dragon Rock loop from Belvédère-Campomoro. This 7.5 km route offers engaging coastal views and leads to the distinctive Dragon Rock. For younger children or less experienced families, consider exploring coastal paths or easier walks in the region, which offer beautiful scenery without the same intensity.
Mountaineering routes around Propriano offer a stunning blend of coastal and mountainous vistas. You can expect panoramic views of the Gulf of Valinco, rugged coastal terrain, and the dense Corsican maquis. Routes like the Vue depuis les falaises – Dragon Rock loop are specifically known for their breathtaking coastal panoramas.
Yes, all the mountaineering routes listed for Propriano are circular. For example, you can explore the Punta di Scogli Longhi – Cala d'Acciolu loop from Belvédère-Campomoro, which is a moderate 17.3 km path exploring rugged coastal terrain, or the Cupabia Beach – Little Cove of Cupabia loop from Les Terrasses du Grand Large, a 10.2 km route offering diverse coastal scenery.
The routes often feature prominent rock formations and offer views of secluded coves. The Vue depuis les falaises – Dragon Rock loop leads directly to the intriguing Dragon Rock. You might also encounter the Punta di Campomoro Rock Formations and enjoy views of beautiful beaches like Cala d'Acciolu.
Propriano's mild Mediterranean climate makes it suitable for outdoor activities for much of the year. Spring and autumn generally offer the most pleasant conditions for mountaineering, with comfortable temperatures and less intense sun than summer. During these seasons, the maquis is vibrant, and the views are often clearest. Summer can be very hot, making early morning or late afternoon hikes preferable.
The routes directly around Propriano are classified as moderate, requiring good fitness. However, the wider region, particularly the Alta Rocca Massif, offers more challenging ascents. For example, the area around the Aiguilles de Bavella, accessible from Propriano, is known for its impressive rock formations and more demanding trails suitable for experienced hikers seeking a greater challenge.
The Propriano region offers a wealth of outdoor activities. After a mountaineering route, you could relax on one of the many sandy beaches like Capu Laurosu or Mancinu. Other popular activities include canyoning in the Baracci canyon, exploring the megalithic site of Filitosa, or enjoying water sports in the Gulf of Valinco.
Many of the routes, such as those starting from Belvédère-Campomoro, typically have designated parking areas nearby. It's advisable to check specific route details on komoot for precise starting points and any available parking information. Given the region's popularity, especially during peak season, arriving early can help secure a spot.
While many trails in Corsica are dog-friendly, it's always best to check local regulations and specific route conditions. The rugged terrain and dense maquis on some mountaineering routes might be challenging for dogs, especially in hot weather. Ensure your dog is fit for the distance and elevation, and always carry enough water for both of you. Keep dogs on a leash to protect local wildlife and livestock.
Propriano and nearby villages like Belvédère-Campomoro offer various options for accommodation and dining. You'll find cafes, restaurants, and guesthouses where you can refuel and relax after your hike. It's a good idea to check opening times, especially outside of the main tourist season.
The duration varies depending on the route and your pace. For instance, the Vue depuis les falaises – Dragon Rock loop typically takes around 2 hours and 7 minutes to complete. Longer routes like the Punta di Scogli Longhi – Dragon Rock loop can take approximately 4 hours and 18 minutes. Always factor in extra time for breaks, photos, and enjoying the scenery.
