As part of a beautification effort along the parkway in 1924, its initial purpose of a reflecting pool also became a place for miniature boating and ice skating. The north end of the Mirror Pool features a commemorative plaque that recognizes the American Planning Association's designation of Ward Parkway as a Great Street through Great Places in America in 2012.
