Tips from the Community

May 12, 2026, North Fire Trail

This alternate route to the summit of Gibraltar Peak is a wide fire track most of the way to the top. That doesn't make it easy though, as the steep approach will challenge anyone and the final stretch to the summit involves loose rock where you'll want quality hiking shoes and maybe hiking poles as well.

Often overshadowed, literally and figuratively, by nearby Gibraltar Peak, Mushroom Rock is a unique rock formation worth stopping at on your way to the summit of Gibraltar.

Located in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Gibraltar Peak is a popular destination near Australia's capital city. There are multiple approaches to the summit but they all have one thing in common, a steep and grueling ascent to the 1,038 meter high peak. However, the view from the granite tipped summit is outstanding and well worth the effort.
