Blockheide Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

Nice excursion destination in the border area, with lots of information about the boulders (wobbling stones) and of course about the 15th eastern longitude, which runs here. A station has also been set up for fans of the Celtic tree circle. Themed trails of various lengths and only slight differences in altitude, so no increased fitness requirements. Entrance from Gmünd or Eibenstein, there are enough parking spaces.

You can hike at any time, only the shop, exhibition and observation tower have opening hours. Everything is closed in bad weather.

Nebelstein Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Nebelsteinhütte deserves a highlight! It is a little way below the summit. A rustic, very cozy hut where you feel welcome - even with dogs in your luggage. I was lucky that the terrace was pretty empty when I arrived. But that changed quickly. The hut is a popular destination for hikers, walkers and mountain bikers. If you are not very good on your feet, you can drive almost to the hut, then it is only a little bit uphill on a gravel path.

Fleischbank Rock Formation

Highlight • Natural Monument

I couldn't understand why it's called Fleischbank, but it's a very interesting rock formation to look at. It is only a very short detour from the main route.

Dobra Voda

Highlight • Religious Site

A much-visited, beautiful and proud 300 year old pilgrimage site. The two fountains in front of the church should contain healing water. If you wander past you should take a look into the more impressive interior, or at least treat yourself to a sip of the special water.

Thaya Spring

Highlight • River

Every spring or river origin is a special place. I've been to a few, and none can be compared to another. But this source has something very special. A river that rises in the middle of the forest under a single tree that towers over it like an ancient guardian of this source....simply magical....

December 28, 2024, Thaya Spring
