The Dębowy Grąd nature reserve is a picturesque part of the Białowieża Forest protecting natural oak-hornbeam forests with a predominance of oaks and ash trees and the peat bog valley of the Dubitka River. It was established in 1985 and covers over 100 hectares. It is a great place for a peaceful trip among wild nature, especially for lovers of forest landscapes. It lies on the Green Velo route.

Unfortunately, after reaching the place, it turned out that it was already closed, so all that was left was to take a few photos from behind the fence. Nevertheless, some information about the operation of the railway can always be useful. The history of the railway dates back to 1916, when its construction began. The purpose of its construction was to transport wood, which was finally completed in 1991. Since that year, the forest railway has been used exclusively for tourism, on the Hajnówka-Topiło route (11 km). In 2001, an additional route was created: Hajnówka-Dolina Rzeki Leśnej (6 km). On the website https://hajnowka.bialystok.lasy.gov.pl/waskotorowe-kolejki-lesne you will find up-to-date information about ticket prices and timetables. In 2024, tickets from PLN 30 to PLN 50.

A nice alley for walks. Unfortunately, poor internet coverage made it difficult for us to use the map, hence such a short section. Later it turned out that it was possible to walk further to reach the narrow-gauge railway. We returned and went to the narrow-gauge railway along the road by the cemetery.

The church was built in a modern style. It consists of an upper (main) and lower part. Inside the church there is a brick iconostasis covered with ceramic mosaic and a gilded chandelier (panikadiło) weighing about 800 kg, made in Sofrino near Moscow. In the lower part there is a wooden, gilded iconostasis. Both iconostases were made by artists from Ukraine. Near the church, in the Orthodox cemetery, there is a small chapel of All Saints. The iconostasis, made by Jerzy Nowosielski (an appreciated painter, known in Podlasie for his sacred art in Orthodox churches (including frescoes and icons), is worthy of attention. Services: 8.00 - canonical hours and Holy Liturgy 17.00 - Vespers https://www.hajnowka.pl/strona/dla-turysty-atrakcje-swiatynie/912-cerkiew-pw-narodzenia-swietego-jana-chrzciciela
