Mytikas (Μύτικας Mýtikas), meaning "nose", is the highest peak on Mt Olympos, at 2,918 metres (9,573 ft). The easiest, still quite steep, trail here is from Skala peak, which is just a few meters lower. It's a rock scramble down and across a narrow ridge. The other access is via the steep gully that comes straight up. Mount Olympus has 52 peaks, deep gorges, and exceptional biodiversity. For both scrambles sure footedness, tolerance of heights, and dry conditions are strongly advised.

Zeus' Bath Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The path is highly recommended. Good shoes and sticks are recommended. Don't forget water, there is nothing on the way. When you are out of Litochoro, you come to the first hiking trail, marked with a red dot on white, halfway through the route you come to the E 14. Great view, the strenuous tour is worth it.

Giosos Apostolidis Refuge

"Giosos Apostolidis" refuge was built in the summer of 1961, by the Mountaineering Club of Thessaloniki (S.E.O.) at an altitude of (2.697m), on private land. In 1962 a second floor was added, bringing, thus, the number of guests to 80 people.

The refuge runs permanently from early June to October, and following agreement with the managers, it also operates the rest of the year. In winter, the refuge hall remains constantly open as an emergency refuge.

On October 2021 one night was €13 per person.

At the start of the tour there is a sign saying that the route is closed due to a broken bridge. There is one at the waterfall, but you can simply hop through the water or over stones to get to the other side. (As of July 2024, I don't know what it will look like with more water in the riverbed).

Better make room in time. The animals have their way and don't like human obstacles!

The elevation is actually 1076m at the end of the paved road. A large parking area with restrooms, pure mountain drinking water fountains, and a restaurant are the last opportunities for food, electricity, and communication until hiking up to the huts near the summit. Note the mountain huts are closed from the last week of October to April, and the upper trails often covered in snow.

May 2025: A couple of additions to „DemSchnitzel“. The three down-river bridges are the ones which are missing. Walking through the river takes time and added 1 hour to our walk today (finding best place to cross, boots off and on etc.). The brown stones in the riverbed are very slippery, use a stick for balance! But a beautiful walk nevertheless👍

May 2025: Three wooden bridges used to cross the river are now broken. The path is officially still closed. Alternatively, you can walk through the riverbed (knee-deep and with strong currents in places). You should have a reasonable level of balance.

Very, very rewarding. I personally climbed the summit in snow (mid-May). The last part from Skala to Mytika was absolutely not easy and requires experience hiking and climbing in less than optimal conditions, at least in snow. The summit is still highly recommended and is certainly a lot easier in season. :)

The trail leads through picturesque forests and over rocky paths, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The climb becomes increasingly steep, but the view of majestic Mount Olympus is worth every effort. The route is well-marked and offers both challenging sections and quieter passages that invite you to enjoy nature. Ideal for experienced hikers who want to experience the beauty of Mount Olympus and the tranquility of nature!
