A huge meadow on the banks of the river (which is actually a lake here), perfect for playing, romping, and having a wonderful picnic. With a bit of luck, you'll see rowers and canoeists—and you're guaranteed to see plenty of waterfowl! A wonderful spot, but bring a blanket... There are no benches.

The forest park has a small entrance fee (5 euros per car, payable by credit card or mobile phone), but it offers a lot, especially for families. The little ones will enjoy a great playground, while the older ones can swing up the treetop course. A snack truck is available for refreshments, and there are also restrooms. The wildlife enclosure with a duck pond also entices children to take a short stroll. Dogs are welcome on leashes. Tips for the (very) grown-ups: - You can also cycle here; a mountain bike is useful. - Some paths not listed on Komoot lead to the lee. They may be a bit muddy and definitely not stroller-friendly, but it's an exciting walk and very quiet. Hiking boots are recommended. - On a weekday in the early evening, outside of school holidays, with a bit of luck, you'll have the park (almost) to yourself - then it's magical! Opening Hours: April-September 8am-9pm October-March 8am-5:30pm

If you are looking for peace and closeness to nature, then The Gearagh Nature Reserve is the right place. The vast expanses of the River Lee stretch out here like a living canvas, framed by reed-covered islands and meadows. On the narrow dam that leads through the water, it almost feels like you are walking in the middle of the river. This nature reserve invites you to delve deeper into the life of Ireland's untouched nature. Here you can discover bird species that find refuge in the silence of this place - a real paradise for anyone who likes to travel with binoculars. The reflections of the clouds on the water and the shimmering grasses create a very special atmosphere that you simply have to experience. What struck me personally is the original and almost enchanted atmosphere of this place. Nature reigns supreme here, and it's worth keeping your eyes open to discover the smaller, more inconspicuous beauties, such as the gentle rustling of the wind through the reeds or the play of light from the sun on the surface of the water.
