Pond in Bartel Wielki

Highlight • Lake

Bartel Wielki - a village of Kociewie in Poland, situated in the Pomeranian Province, in the Starogard County, in the Kaliska commune [2], in the Starogard Lakeland.

It is presumed that the name of the village derives from the name Bartel [3], already noted in documents from 1428. The confirmation of the existence of such a name is the information contained in the inspection of Royal Prussia from 1624, which states that in the area of the Człuchów starosty in 1624 the miller Bartel Jeskie lived [4]. Another possibility for the origin of the name of the village Bartel Wielki is given by Józef Milewski [5], deriving it from the words barć [6], a beekeeper [7].

The name Bartel Wielki is the only such name of a village in Poland.

Bartel Wielki is a village village situated among a large forest complex. The buildings in the village are scattered and spread over a distance of about 2 kilometers, parallel to the asphalt road. As of December 31, 2007, the village of Bartel Wielki was inhabited by 140 people in 28 farm buildings, including the surrounding forests, with an area of 3216 ha [8].

As part of the Pomeranian Village Renewal Program, the building of the liquidated school in Bartel Wielki was renovated and transformed into the Village Development and Integration Center. With the same funds, a wooden wigwam-style facility was erected next to it, where, inside, by a brick fireplace, about 50 people can be accommodated at once. In the village of Bartel Wielki, an annual Family Festival is held, organized by the Council of the Sołecka District.

Driving along the bicycle path from Żabno, we turn right here, and driving from Starogard we turn left. If our road leads from Łapiszewo, we cross the bicycle path and go straight. There are several hundred meters of gravel road ahead of us and we will find ourselves on the Wierzyca Lagoon. There we have a shelter with benches and a place for a bonfire.
