Beautiful trail on the Romberg, which circles the rather unspectacular summit. Whether you take this path or the one one floor lower - both lead to the Romberg Gorge, which ends in a waterfall. Behind it is a beautiful, enchanted trail to the Romberg Ponds. Be careful of fences on the ground and in the trail - tripping hazard.

Here you can let it roll. After "cranking" to Billtalhöhe, a descent like this feels really good.

The lower part of the waterfall (seen from Billtalweg) is even more spectacular when it has a lot of water or is frozen. A few pictures show it from there. But since this is a private road, it is difficult to get there.

Beautiful waterfall, which also invites you to linger. You don't necessarily expect who you drive along this route.

One of the few waterfalls in the Taunus. Quite sweet in the first part.

One of the few waterfalls in the Taunus. Emphasis is on little, also in terms of size.

The waterfall in the Billtal valley is a worthwhile destination - scenically charming and offering very different experiences depending on the route. It is easily accessible to almost everyone via the Pionierweg path - ideal for a short break or as a stage on a longer tour. If you want to explore the lower part of the waterfall, you have three options of varying difficulty: ⚠️ Respect nature & animals Two of the three paths lead through wild sections, some of which are retreats for wild animals. Please only use them when necessary and protect the flora and fauna. 1. Easy, but via private road From the lower Pionierweg parking lot towards Ruppertshain, then take the next turnoff to the right from the Ölmühlweg. Then straight through the Billtal valley, past the houses of the residents, to the waterfall (and if you want, to the Stoltze-Plätzi). Attention: Private road, officially forbidden. A friendly inquiry with residents can help. 2. Via the Hermin-Herr-Weg From the parking lot on Viktoriaweg, follow path 8 of the circular routes around the Rettershof or the Hermin-Herr-Weg (other side of the valley). As soon as the waterfall is visible, after a gentle left turn on the valley side, you will see a poorly maintained path to the right into the valley. Attention: Lots of dead wood, not an official path. Only suitable for experienced, sure-footed hikers. Leads to the Stoltze-Plätzi, then back to the waterfall. 3. Even wilder via a "forgotten" hiking trail Instead of descending at variant 2, continue towards Naturfreundehaus Billtalhöhe. Shortly before the campsite, turn right onto an old, overgrown path (trail marking still visible after a while on a tree on the left). If you have the feeling of being on a skid road, you are on the right track. The path is also marked on the komoot map. The path follows the valley back to the waterfall, but is very rough. After a while, a trail to the Stoltze-Plätzi becomes visible along the Rombach. From there, take the path to the waterfall.

The special feature here is the lively stream crossing of the Rombach and the view of the small, wildly romantic Rombach Gorge.

The Billtal Waterfall is considered one of the few truly noteworthy waterfalls in the Taunus, featuring a main fall stage of about 9 meters. Another popular spot is the Eschbach Waterfalls, where the river forms a small cascade. You can also find a waterfall at the end of the Romberg Gorge and Ponds Trail, which leads to enchanted ponds.

The Romberg Gorge and Ponds Trail, for instance, offers an enchanted natural experience with ponds beyond the waterfall.

The best time to visit is generally during spring or after periods of rain, when water levels are higher. The Billtal Waterfall, for example, may have low or no water during the summer months. Autumn also offers beautiful scenery with changing foliage.
Some paths, particularly those leading to the lower part of the Billtal Waterfall, can be wild, unmaintained, and have lots of dead wood, making them suitable for experienced, sure-footed hikers. The Romberg Gorge and Ponds Trail also advises caution due to fences on the ground that can be a tripping hazard. Generally, the terrain in the Taunus is varied and can include ascents and descents.

Yes, at the Eschbach Waterfalls, a plaque provides information about the site's history and significance. It details how a former weir was demolished, leading to the Eschbach river forming its current cascade over a bed ramp.
For the Billtal Waterfall, there are parking options such as the lower Pionierweg parking lot or a parking lot on Viktoriaweg. However, some access paths might involve private roads, so it's good to be aware of local regulations and inquire if necessary.
Given the varied terrain and potential for unmaintained paths, sturdy hiking boots with good grip are recommended. Layers of clothing are advisable to adapt to changing weather conditions, and rain gear can be useful, especially during spring or autumn. For wilder sections, long pants might offer protection from undergrowth.
