The castle park was acquired by the municipality and laid out in its current form between 1982 and 1988. There is a large pond with a pavilion nearby, some sculptures, and many trees that provide shade. You can feel quite comfortable there.

What a beautiful little castle and with a beautiful pond in front of it. Like something out of a postcard, but almost on your doorstep

In the heart of Gemmingen, between the castle courtyard and Wiesenstrasse, is the old stately castle park, which was acquired and renovated by the municipality of Gemmingen in the 1980s. The idea behind it was English gardening. The center of the site today is the castle park pond, which is fed by its own spring, the Murrbach, and mainly by an old pipe from the Losterbach spring. Adjacent to the northern bank is an octagonal wooden pavilion. There are various events, concerts, children's performances and also an open-air cinema. Every two years, the park festival takes place across the entire area, organized by Gemmingen and Stebbach clubs. Not far from the pavilion, on the edge of the path, you will come across a bronze group, the Gänseliesel. It was donated by a Gemmingen citizen. There is also an old war memorial in a clearing in the trees. The castle park is now the green heart of the municipality and is an integral part of community life. (Source: Heilbronnerland.de)

The Köpfer reservoir serves as flood protection. Even though the lake is idyllically situated in the forest, swimming is prohibited here.

The Trappensee Castle is a really beautiful photo subject. From the bridge, with the reflection of the castle in the background, the photo is truly unique. I enjoy the view every time and one of my favorite photos comes from here.

Visitors frequently enjoy the Gemmingen Castle Park, which features a beautiful pond and hosts various community events. The Köpfer Reservoir is also popular for its idyllic forest setting, perfect for relaxation and birdwatching. Another favorite is the Mühl Valley Lake, known for pleasant walks along its shores and a nearby stream.
Yes, the Eichbottseen (Upper and Lower Eichbottsee) are part of a popular local recreation area that is very family-friendly. It features a children's playground with a zip line, slide, and swings, a small stream for splashing, and facilities for older children like a football field and basketball hoop. Other family-friendly spots include Gemmingen Castle Park, Köpfer Reservoir, and Mühl Valley Lake.
The Eichbottseen area is rich in flora and fauna, home to diverse plant and animal life. You might spot kingfishers, salamanders, newts, and frogs, especially in the biotope on the western side of the lower lake. The Köpfer Reservoir is also a great spot for observing birds and ducks.
Swimming is generally not permitted in many of the natural lakes, including the Eichbottseen, Köpfer Reservoir, and Mühl Valley Lake. However, the Leingarten public swimming pool (Freibad Leingarten) is located a short distance from the Eichbottseen for those looking to swim.
Absolutely. The Salinensee features a hiking trail marked with a blue dot by the Swabian Alb Association, offering extended walks through the 'Taschenwald' forest. The Eichbottseen area has numerous walking and cycling paths, and the Mühl Valley Lake is ideal for walks directly along the lake and a stream. For more extensive options, explore the MTB Trails around Leingarten or Cycling around Leingarten guides.
The lakes offer beauty year-round. For a special experience, visit the Eichbottseen in May when the Chinese Empress Tree (Blauglockenbaum) in the arboretum is in full bloom. The Mönchsbergsee Wine Kiosk is a popular spot on Sundays and public holidays during warmer months.
The Salinensee is particularly interesting due to its unique geological origin. It formed in 1964 after the collapse of a large Doline, possibly linked to the region's historical salt mining and leaching. The Gemmingen Castle Park also has historical significance as an old stately park with a war memorial.
The Mönchsbergsee Wine Kiosk, located at the foot of vineyards, is a popular spot for refreshments, especially on Sundays and public holidays when its wine bar is open.
Yes, both the Upper and Lower Eichbottsee are stocked with over 20 fish species, including trout and carp, making them popular for fishing. The Tauchsteinsee, a flooded former quarry, is also managed by a fishing club, though it's not freely accessible to the public.
Yes, numerous regional cycling trails pass by the Eichbottsee, making it a great starting point for exploring the surrounding area on two wheels. You can find more cycling opportunities in the Gravel biking around Leingarten and Cycling around Leingarten guides.
The Eichbottseen recreation area is special because it offers a wide range of leisure activities. Besides the two lakes, it features an arboretum with native and exotic tree species, a diverse ecosystem with rich flora and fauna, and excellent family-friendly amenities like playgrounds and sports facilities, all designed as a green space connecting two districts of Leingarten.
The Tauchsteinsee, a flooded former quarry, is an idyllic lake that is less freely accessible, often fenced. It's primarily managed by a fishing club, but during specific events like the Diving Stone Festival, it becomes more accessible. Its clear water often reflects a beautiful blue sky.
