A really great and well-kept area with rest areas, panoramic loungers, swings, hammocks - a great local recreation area. Horn Castle is located about 600 m west of Horn in a marshy headwater area of the Klingelbach. The impressive 4-5 m high, round castle mound has a diameter of 40 m. A 9-12 m wide, in places 1.5 m deep moat surrounds the castle mound. A well is said to have been uncovered in the partly silted up, partly still swampy ditch. The round hill plateau with a diameter of approx. 20 m shows an approx. 2 m deep trough or a wall-like elevation that encloses the plateau. horn-hunsrueck.de/horner-burg

"Gemünden, the pearl of the Hunsrück" is the name of the scenically very attractive resort at the foot of the Soonwald. In fact, the visitor can hardly resist the impression of the special that the old town of Gemünden radiates. In front of him on a rocky outcrop rises the castle of the Barons of Salis-Soglio, rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century and centuries earlier by inhabited by the noble families of Sponheim, Schmittburger and von Salis. Gemünden nestles around its walls with its many old half-timbered houses, which in turn are surrounded by the Simmerbach, which flows below Gemünden as the Kellenbach through a picturesque valley to the Nahe, framed by Soonwald and Lützelsoon. If the visitor climbs the Schlossberg and looks down from its height at the winding alleyways and slate-roofed, nested houses, he must realize that this spot, which once had over a thousand inhabitants, was always a center of local trade and commerce. The recognized resort of Gemünden, also known as "The Pearl of the Hunsrück", lies at the foot of the Soonwald. The baroque castle and the many beautiful old half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th centuries give the "Flecken" a very special charm. History mentions the place for the first time in 1304 as the property of the Counts of Sponheim. The wonderful nature and wildlife around Gemünden is best explored on a hike or by bike. Gemünden is connected to a well-developed network of hiking trails and has a direct connection to the region's cycle paths. Source: http://www.gemuenden.de/

Quelle : Text Infotafe
