Where you cycle today between tall pine trees on a smooth bike path, the mail and goods used to be transported from Berlin to Hamburg by horse-drawn carriage - and vice versa. The post route was opened in 1654 and led from the Oranienburger Tor via Hennigsdorf, Bötzow, Fehrbellin and Kyritz to Hamburg. During the Thirty Years' War it was increasingly used as an army road for the troops. Today, a few postal milestones still commemorate the historical use.

May 7, 2026, A-Frame Shelter in Havelland Forest

Shelter with a table and benches by a looong gravel path in the forest. Haven’t looked good enuff to tell if it’s good for an overnighter but it’s ok to hide from the rain. No windows so dark. Access rather by gravel or mtb bike so 40mm tyres minimum recommended for a bit of comfort.
