The hike from the old stone bridge at car park on the Karl Johans veg is only four kilometres. It is an easy trail that gets you to this scenic lake where there is a nice hut. The view out over the lake is beautiful and the setting is very tranquil.

Nice place to camp. However, there is a Frisbee course running through here and in the evenings lots of people come and throw their Frisbees all over the place; this went on until midnight. One of the Frisbee players said that camping is not really allowed here. Overall, I had a lovely evening and a good night here and had nice conversations with lots of passers-by. Knowing that you are not really welcome here, I would look for a different place next time.

Super cool place, shelter is also equipped with enough hooks to dry your stuff. There is also a saw. I would say don't hesitate.

It's a great shelter but it's difficult to get there if you are carrying a very heavy stuff (bicycle + panniers 55kg in my case). You must push your bike for 400m, it's very steep but worth it :) Many local hikers could visit you

What are DNT huts and how do they work?

DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association) huts are cabins maintained across Norway, offering accessible and affordable accommodation for hikers. They are typically categorized as staffed lodges, self-service cabins, or no-service cabins, with varying amenities. Many DNT cabins, like Skorovashøtta and Bellingstua, require a special key, often obtained through DNT membership. They are generally equipped for cooking and provide basic provisions.

Are there huts with good viewpoints?

It's advisable to check specific hut details for key requirements and available amenities before your visit. More information about DNT huts can be found on Visit Norway.

Can I find huts that are accessible by road?

Some DNT huts are more accessible than others. For instance, Bellingstua (DNT) is situated at 482 meters above sea level and is accessible by an all-year road, making it a convenient stop for explorers. Private cabins also often have good road access.

Many private cabins also feature modern architecture, panoramic windows, and amenities like saunas or jacuzzis.

What are the typical facilities available at these huts?

Facilities vary greatly depending on the type of hut. DNT self-service huts like Skorovashøtta and Finnkruhøtta are typically equipped for cooking, have basic provisions, and may include indoor plumbing and electricity. Shelters like the Shelter with Fireplace by the Lake often provide a fireplace and space for tents. Private cabins usually offer modern comforts, fully equipped kitchens, and sometimes amenities like WiFi, barbecues, or even saunas.

What is the best time to visit huts in Nord-Trøndelag?

The best time to visit depends on your desired activities. Summer and early autumn are ideal for hiking, fishing, and exploring the natural landscapes, with longer daylight hours. Some huts, especially DNT ones, are open year-round, offering opportunities for winter activities like skiing, though accessibility might vary.
