One of Buresøvej runs on the edge of Buresø, which is a bog area in the northern half of Gribskov. The original bog area of 17.1 hectares is today overgrown with red spruce. As a result of the large amounts of rain in January and February, however, one can again sense the original marsh, which was formed by the overgrowth of an ice age lake. In the 19th century, popular belief believed that in the old days there had been sailing all the way from the Kattegat to this place, even though it is 42 meters above sea level. The Rødedam was created by building dams and was originally used to raise carp for the royal family. If the water level had to be reduced, the water was channeled through a ditch into the nearby Frederik 2.'s Canal. The dam lake was actually overgrown and renatured and is now the second largest lake in Gribskov. Remnants of the canal can still be seen on the path that has been closed to mountain bikers. This was just one of the many canals that ended up ensuring sufficient water for the mill and lake at Frederiksborg Castle.

The name of the house goes back to a big black brow stallion named Fændrik. This horse had its big time when Christian IV (1577-1648) was king. In the immediate vicinity of the house was a Stuterei. The present house was built around 1900 as a ranger house. For a few years it has been run as a small café. See more: https://www.baadfarten.com/fndrikhus
