Looking for the Montelonga mountain hut that for the umpteenth time I didn't find. Don't follow this trail unless you want to take a difficult path on foot and carry your bike for about 30 minutes. For the rest, the forest road is wonderful, all under the trees with concrete ramps of over 25%. For the record, we saw foxes, owls and roe deers up close.

Pedestrian bridge, currently closed for works, better to take a look before starting the tour of the lake. Dint path very nice, rather than the tourist walkway that runs along the north side.

I take you on a photographic excursion where the lake under maintenance offers unexpected views. Discover how the sunset light, the gray sky and the haze can transform a seemingly flat scene into a magical composition.

The most popular destinations include Lake Barcis, known for its suggestive views and the unique First Viewpoint (Skywalk del Dint). Another favorite is Lake Tramonti, an artificial lake ideal for walks and cycling. Additionally, the Pozze Smeraldine (Emerald Pools) along the Meduna torrent are a natural wonder, famous for their crystal-clear, emerald-green waters.
Yes, several lakes offer family-friendly options. Lake Tramonti is highly accessible and perfect for relaxing walks or bicycle rides. Lake Barcis also features easy paths like the Alpini Trail (Barcis), suitable for children, and areas for picnics. The Pozze Smeraldine are also accessible via a relatively easy walk, making them suitable for all ages.
The lakes are set against diverse and stunning natural backdrops. You'll find the Carnic pre-Alps surrounding Lake Tramonti, characterized by deep valleys and steep slopes. The Pozze Smeraldine are nestled within the Friulian Dolomites Nature Park, showcasing pristine rivers and unique rock formations. Lake Barcis offers expansive views of the lake and surrounding mountains, particularly from its eastern edge and the Skywalk del Dint.
Yes, the Pozze Smeraldine (Emerald Pools) are renowned for wild swimming. Located along the Meduna torrent in Val Tramontina, these natural pools boast incredibly clear, emerald-green waters. While the water is very cold, it offers a refreshing and unique experience in a picturesque setting.
The lakes are generally best visited from spring through early autumn (May to October) when the weather is mild and suitable for outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, and enjoying the viewpoints. Summer is ideal for swimming in the Pozze Smeraldine, despite the cold water. Autumn offers beautiful foliage, especially around the artificial lakes.
Besides walking and cycling around the lakes, the region offers various outdoor activities. You can find numerous MTB trails, cycling routes, and gravel biking paths. Sport fishing is also popular on Lake Tramonti. The area is also excellent for general hiking and exploring natural viewpoints.
Absolutely. The First Viewpoint (Skywalk del Dint) at Lake Barcis offers a spectacular panorama from a metal walkway with transparent glass sections. The Pozze Smeraldine are a natural wonder with their vibrant green waters. Additionally, the area around Lake Tramonti provides scenic views of the Carnic pre-Alps.
The region features a mix of both. Lake Barcis and Lake Tramonti are artificial lakes, created by dams for hydroelectric purposes, yet they offer stunning natural scenery. In contrast, the Pozze Smeraldine are entirely natural pools formed by centuries of erosion from the Meduna torrent.
Yes, you can find amenities near some of the lakes. For instance, along the road near Lake Tramonti, there are cafes. Near Lake Barcis, especially around the Footbridge over Lake Barcis, you can find benches, picnic tables, and even a bar for refreshments.
Visitors frequently praise the breathtaking natural scenery, especially the 'very suggestive' views at Lake Barcis and the unique experience of the Skywalk del Dint. The tranquility and serenity of places like Lake Tramonti are also highly valued, along with the opportunity for relaxing walks and bike rides. The stunning emerald waters of the Pozze Smeraldine are often described as a 'paradise on earth'.
While Lake Barcis is popular, the Pozze Smeraldine, though internationally recognized, can offer a more secluded natural experience, especially outside peak times. Near Lake Tramonti, smaller hydroelectric basins like Lake Cà Selva and Lake Cà Zul also contribute to the area's scenic beauty and might be less frequented.
While some paths might be less accessible due to snow or ice, the lakes can still offer a serene and beautiful winter landscape. However, many recreational activities like swimming or extensive hiking might be limited. It's advisable to check local conditions and accessibility before planning a winter visit, and to be prepared for colder temperatures.
