Before arriving in Cavedago you pass in front of Castel Belfort (it looks like the castle from Highlander)

Perched on a rocky ridge dominating the entire basin of the Outer Giudicaria, Stenico Castle still appears as an impressive and massive fortress. However, various additions and modifications over the centuries have given the complex the appearance of an elegant residence. The castle was the property of the Prince-Bishops of Trent and the seat of the Captain of the Giudicaria. For centuries, it represented an important outpost of the Prince-Bishopric's administration and served as a summer residence for the sovereign. Sober, austerely furnished rooms for administrative purposes alternate with ancillary rooms and well-kept reception rooms with valuable Renaissance frescoes. The Chapel of St. Martin dates back to the early Middle Ages. It contains a valuable cycle of paintings from the early 13th century and was recently restored. By chance we rode our bikes straight through the open gate into the castle courtyard. Unfortunately there was no restaurant there that we had hoped for😏 We were politely complimented on leaving immediately afterwards 😅

A visit is highly recommended. The interior is interesting and well-preserved. Besides the Chapel of San Martino with its 13th-century frescoes, the series of furnished rooms, an archaeological area, and a valuable collection of carved furniture, frescoes, and antique weapons from the Buonconsiglio Castle Museum in Trento are all worth seeing. The buildings and courtyards are surrounded to the south by a massive wall and enclosed to the north by an impressive outer wall. Opposite the outer courtyard rises the Palazzo Romanico. The so-called Torre della Fame, or Hunger Tower, is the oldest part of Castel Stenico. The Chapel of San Martino, with its valuable Romanesque frescoes, dates back to the 13th century. Almost unreal beautiful with the table mountains. An absolute highlight on my alpine crossing.

Incredibly beautiful area, on the one hand the nearby gorge, which you can admire, the waterfalls Casade di Mezzola and Stenico with its table mountains in the background top it all off.

Built in the 12th century on a pre-existing castle site, Castel Stenico is located in a highly strategic point - the castle in fact has an observation point over the entire territory to the west of the regional capital. Today the castle is the seat of the UNESCO biosphere as regards the area of the Ledrensi and Giudicarie Alps.

It hosts cultural events, horticultural courses and summer camps to give new serenity to many people affected by family illnesses or psychosocial difficulties.
