Information on the parish church of Cavaion is rather fragmentary, especially regarding the original building. An explicit reference to the church of S. Giovanni Battista in Cavaion is found in a document from 1224, written in the monastery of San Zeno. The town of Cavaion was then part of the "Feudo Zenoniano" (estates spread throughout the province of Verona, owned by the monastery of S. Zeno), while it was pastorally dependent on the parish church of S. Andrea in Cisano. The original building was most likely in Romanesque style, oriented along the liturgical east-west axis. Towards the second half of the 15th century the building was expanded. The presence of a rector is documented from 1460. Towards the first half of the 17th century the building was expanded to the dimensions of the current presbytery. In 1749 the bell tower was raised to its current height. The main changes to the plan of the building took place between 1812 and 1830, when the church took its current form. Some parts of the previous building were demolished, lengthening the nave, so much so that the façade leaned too much against the hill above and the road leading to the nearby village of Incaffi. It was therefore decided to change the orientation of the façade and to build a second, more majestic façade in neoclassical style on the south side. On the east side, leaning against the church, a large oratory was built, which is now used as a space for associations and parish work.
