March 17, 2025, Puig de Galatzó Summit

As Mallorca's southernmost 1,000-meter peak, the Puig de Galatzó (1,027 meters) marks the beginning of the Tramuntana range and offers fantastic views. There are several ways to reach the summit, depending on your fitness level and starting point. The final 200 meters require some surefootedness, but are rewarded with a spectacular panorama of the island. Because of its striking shape, it is also called the "Matterhorn of Mallorca."

Our adventure starts in the beautiful village square of Puigpunyent, right in front of the charming town hall. From there, the path leads us south through a picturesque avenue, over a wonderful bridge. At the supermarket we have the last opportunity to buy delicious drinks and snacks for the top of the mountain. We walk past the charming village church and follow the quiet road. Just before the summit, it gets steeper and the path leads us through a rocky path. Once at the top, a breathtaking view of the entire surrounding area awaits us. To the south we can see the sea, to the east is Palma and to the north we have a beautiful view of Puigpunyent.

Puig de na Bausana is on a private property. If you leave the GR path you are inside a hunting reserve and the path is marked as prohibited because there are hunters and it is quite dangerous.

In addition to the tip from “Südschwede”, I would definitely recommend good footwear with non-slip soles - no sneakers! But overall it looks worse than it is 😉. The view, however, is really very worthwhile 😎

In my opinion, the climbing section just below the summit is very dangerous without equipment and experience. Anyone who makes a mistake or loses their balance will fall deeply. The descent in particular is challenging and very dangerous. Risk of death!

You'll truly earn these views, it's a hard slog to the top of the pass from the West/South West over rough (sometimes pathless) terrain, following cairns as you go. There is little shade, so when you see a tree, take a breather underneath it and drink plenty of water. The sense of achievement you feel once you reach the top is unrivalled!
