Unfortunately, I had to spend 30 minutes cleaning up the place this morning. A lot of packaging with German writing on it. Please, everyone, behave yourselves! Otherwise, a fantastic place if you're an early riser. Around 9:00 a.m., the shooting range next door was active, and you could hear the planes flying in from Copenhagen Airport.

The shelter with a view of the Öresund Bridge and Malmö stands on a cow pasture and is therefore fenced in again. Unfortunately, the shelter is not completely windproof, so it can get chilly on windy nights. Would still like to stay here again.

There are multiple spots for a tent in case the shelter is occupied. Bins for thrash are close to the shelter and there's a small wharf for lake access. Loads of mosquitos so keep that in mind :)

The wind shelter is located along the Skåneleden. You will find a firepit and some fire wood for a nice evening around the campfire. There is also a pond if you lack of water.

Great Vindskydd (windshelter) along the trails of the Skåneleden with the typical fire pit. Lake Eksholms is just a few meters away, so you can get water for your camp. Make sure to treat it though.

The cat seems to be a regular guest at this wind shelter. She is a friendly fella if you treat her well. If you have sensitive gear like a down sleeping bag, keep in mind, that she will spend the night with you. We tried to put a towel between our sleeping bag and the cat that insisted on sleeping on our feet. However, that helped poorly against her claws ;)

Camping cabins at Trelleborg Strand Camping are also very family-friendly, offering various amenities and proximity to a sandy beach and activities.
For scenic views, Windshelter Allmäningen at Skåneleden offers beautiful vistas, and Windshelter Ljunjunghusen provides views over the ocean and the Öresund Bridge. Eksholmssjön & Shelter is situated just meters from Lake Eksholm, offering a serene lakeside experience.
Hiking shelters (Vindskydd) along the Skåneleden trail are typically basic structures designed for shelter from wind and rain. Many include a fire pit, and some offer access to water sources (which usually needs to be treated). You can find shelters like the Skåneleden Shelter with Toilet that also provide a toilet for added comfort.
Some shelters, like Eksholmssjön & Shelter, are near lakes or ponds where you can get water, but it's crucial to treat it before consumption. At Windshelter Allmäningen at Skåneleden, the water pump might not be working, so it's advisable to bring your own water.
Yes, many of the hiking shelters are equipped with fire pits. For example, Eksholmssjön & Shelter and Shelter with firepit Sturup/Glamberga both feature fire pits, with the latter often having firewood available.
The Trelleborg area, with its Skåneleden trail and coastal landscapes, is excellent for various outdoor activities. You can explore numerous hiking trails, enjoy mountain biking on routes like those found in the MTB Trails around Trelleborg guide, or go cycling on routes detailed in the Cycling around Trelleborg guide and Road Cycling Routes around Trelleborg guide.
Visitors appreciate the immersive nature experience, the tranquility of the Skåneleden trails, and the opportunity for campfires. For a more luxurious stay, numerous vacation homes and cottages are available for rent, often featuring multiple bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and amenities like hot tubs or sea views.
For an overnight stay at a hiking shelter, it's essential to pack a sleeping bag suitable for the weather, a sleeping pad, and cooking gear if you plan to use a fire pit. Given that water sources may require treatment or be unavailable, always bring sufficient drinking water. Mosquito repellent is also highly recommended, especially near lakes like Eksholmssjön.
While specific hiking shelters may not have explicit rules, it's generally accepted for dogs to accompany hikers on trails. For camping cabins, some at Trelleborg Strand Camping, specifically certain Dalacabins and Smygehukstugor, welcome pets. For private vacation homes, it's best to check with the individual rental provider.
The best time to visit largely depends on your preference. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures for hiking and fewer mosquitos. Summer is ideal for enjoying the coastal areas and camping cabins, though you should be prepared for more visitors and potentially more insects. Winter can be beautiful for a quiet, serene experience, but shelters might be chilly, and amenities like water pumps could be less reliable.
