(40 min from T-central with tube&bus - 43SEK/one-way, also possible with a small shuttle-ship from Stockholm Stadshus ~160SEK/one-way ~1 hour).
The garden can truly compete with other famous parcs like Versailles or Schönbrunn/Vienna and is FREE OF CHARGE with plenty of possibilities for a picnic.
On the western side is a path through virgin forset, which makes you forget all the straight and ordered elements around the middle of the garden within 10m. Like in an English garden the nature reigns and builds up the balance with the residual French style.
Next to the Chinese castle (kina slot) you find a nicely made exhibition explaining construction of the garden as well as ancient and current work in and around the garden. There is also a tiny sand ground for the small kids to play, while the elder ones can read the signs.
We gave us some time to walk approx. 5 km in a little bit more than 3 hours.

Driving (or your own car) is probably not an option, but we've listed them here. Here are a few options: Public Transportation - Via Tunnelbana & Bus The easiest and most cost-effective way to reach Drottningholm Palace is by public transportation. Take the subway (Tunnelbana) to Brommaplan station and change there to bus 177 or 176 towards Drottningholm. The journey takes about 40-50 minutes. Ferry: By Water to Drottningholm Palace A scenic alternative is the ferry. From April to October, you can take a ferry directly to the palace from Stadshuskajen (near the town hall). The journey across Lake Mälaren offers breathtaking views and takes about an hour. The Drottningholm Palace pier is just 200 meters from the palace. Bicycle: A sporty way to reach your destination For active vacationers, a bicycle tour to Drottningholm Palace is an excellent choice. The cycle path is well signposted and offers beautiful scenery. The route is approximately 12 kilometers long and takes about an hour, depending on your speed and stamina. By car to Drottningholm Palace If you prefer to drive yourself, you can rent a car or, of course, bring your own vehicle, even if you're driving all the way to Stockholm.
