Tykocin Castle and Castle Restaurant

Highlight • Castle

The castle - then located in the border area with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania - was built in 1433 for the Lithuanian nobleman Jonas Goštautas, the governor of Trakai and Vilnius, in place of the original wooden fortress. In the 1560s, after the death of the last member of the Goštautas family, the castle became the property of King Sigismund II Augustus, who expanded it[4]. Construction was directed by Job Bretfus, a military engineer and royal architect. During the reign of Sigismund Augustus, the building served as a royal residence with an impressive treasury and library, as well as the main arsenal of the crown. In the years 1611-1632 the castle was again rebuilt and surrounded with bastions by Krzysztof Wiesiołowski, the starosta of Tykocin (Translated from Wikipedia).

The Bucholtz Palace was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Wealthy factory owners from the city of Łódź built a charming palace next to their factory, modeled on Renaissance residences in France and Italy. The beautifully decorated Art Nouveau facade and beautiful interiors make this building absolutely unique. For many decades, the Bucholtz Palace has housed an art high school. You can visit the inside during the holidays and also see exhibitions of students' work. An absolute must-visit point not only in Supraśl but also in Podlasie.

Tykocin Castle is one of the greatest attractions in Podlasie, picturesquely situated on the Narew River. Originally a 15th-century stronghold of the Gasztołd family, it was rebuilt in the 16th century into a Renaissance royal castle of Sigismund Augustus, which housed, among other things, the royal treasury and arsenal. Later, the castle belonged to Stefan Czarniecki and then the Branicki family, but after numerous wars and fires, it fell into ruin. Modern reconstruction restored it to its former glory and allowed the creation of a museum, restaurant, and observation tower with a panoramic view of the Narew Valley.

Beautiful Palace after renovation. A monument in which the seat of WKZ is located. The palace dates back to 1880-1890. A truly remarkable place. Towards the Dojlidy ponds to the east we have the historic factory settlement of Hausbach.
