Pałac Morawa

Highlight • Historical Site

A lovely Neoclassical palace built in 1873 with an extensive English landscape park. The palace is leased by the St Hedwig of Silesia Foundation set up by Melitta Sallai, née von Wietersheim-Kramsta, daughter of the last owners of the palace who fled Morawa in 1945. The foundation runs a crèche for disadvantaged children and organizes German and Polish youth meetings. In 2002 it received a prize for its role in reconciliation of the two nations. The palace has several rooms for rent and a restaurant.

Piast Castle

Highlight • Castle

Huge castle in the city of Jawor. Unfortunately, it was converted by communists into social establishments and flats. Nevertheless, the shape is still impressive. Apparently, some of them can be visited, unfortunately I was not given the opportunity.

Luboradz Palace

Highlight • Historical Site

A truly grandiose affair complete with a chapel, a moat, a handful of handsome accompanying houses and extensive grounds. One can almost feel the former glory. The palace dates to C16 when it was a defensive manor house. It was converted in 1681-1686 into Baroque form by the then owner, Christoph Wenzel von Nostitz. His noble family run Luboradz and other properties in the vicinity until 1890, when the whole estate passed to the von Wolkenstein-Trostburgs who held it until the end of WWII. During the communist times it was nationalized and handed over to the Mściwojów municipality. Now in private hands it is being slowly renovated. The interior is out of bounds but you can freely wander around the palace. Highly recommended.

Roztoka Castle

Highlight • Castle

The history of this stunning palace goes as far back as C14. The building dates from C16, but was exhaustively rebuilt in 1720s and 1870s to assume its current Baroque and Renaissance Revival form. In front of it there are the remnants of a French formal garden complete with some striking if dilapidated architecture. Until 1945 the palace was the seat of the von Hochberg noble family, curiously headed by a succession of Hans Heinrichs, numbered in a truly royal fashion up to XVIII. It sprung to international fame in 2020 when it was reported that 28 tonnes of nazi gold is buried there. Presently the palace is owned by a foundation charged with its restoration. It runs guided visits, see the website for details.

It's also easy to see from the outside. When I was there, filming was taking place and the area was inaccessible.

Unfortunately, a ruin, although the premise is beautiful. Behind the palace there is an interesting looking agritourism farm.
