I recommend following the signs to the viewing point - paragliders often take off from there.

Szczebel, located right next to Zakopianka (S7), rises above the towns of Mszana Dolna, Glisne, Tenczyn, Lubień and Kasinka Mała. The massif has four peaks: Czechówka (721 m), Szczebel (Strzebel, 977 m), Mały Szczebel (Mały Strzebel) and Mała Góra (883 m). At the top there is a monument dedicated to Pope John Paul II, who visited Strzebel twice. There is also a Polish flag at the top. In 2010, as part of the “Discover Beskid Wyspowy” campaign, several tables and benches were placed at the top of Szczebel, a campfire site was set up and a map of the Myślenice district was placed. In May 2011, near the top, by the black trail from Lubień, a place was created at the initiative of people practicing paragliding, from which paragliders can take off in good weather.

This peak is included in the Crown of Polish Mountains - the highest peak of the Beskid Makowski. There is an astronomical observatory on the peak - open at certain hours, but not always. Lots of places to sit and shelters. The peak is forested, so you won't see much from it - but you have another peak of the Crown counted.

Getting to Śnieżnica shouldn't be a problem for anyone, for example, by the green trail from Gruszowiec. The forested peak with a cross, map, bench and summit plaque doesn't offer any views, but 3 minutes to the west, a steep marked descent takes you to a paragliding launch site, from where there is a view of Lubomir and Ćwilin, among others.

For breathtaking panoramic views, consider visiting Mogielica, the highest peak in the Beskid Wyspowy, which features a relatively new observation tower. Turbacz, the highest peak of the Gorce Mountains, offers jaw-dropping views of the Tatra Mountains from its PTTK hostel on clear days. Additionally, Ćwilin provides wonderful panoramas of the Gorce, Tatras, Pieniny, Beskid Sądecki, and Limanowa Range from its scenic glade.
Yes, several peaks offer mountain huts or shelters. Turbacz hosts the PTTK Turbacz Mountain Hostel, a hub for various trails with food, drink, and accommodation. Luboń Wielki Summit is home to the only mountain hut in the Beskid Wyspowy, where visitors can spend the night and eat. You can also find the charming PTTK mountain hut on Maciejowa, offering 25 beds, hot meals, and views of the Tatras, Babia Góra, and Rabka-Zdrój.
While specific 'family-friendly' routes are not detailed for all peaks, many trails are suitable for families. The PTTK mountain hut on Maciejowa is listed as family-friendly and can be reached in about 2 hours from Rabka-Zdrój via the red trail. Generally, peaks with well-maintained trails and moderate ascents, such as parts of the routes to Lubogoszcz, can be enjoyable for families.
Absolutely. On the southern slope of Luboń Wielki, along the yellow trail, you can explore a geological-morphological nature reserve named after Stanisław Dunin-Borkowski, known for its magnificent rockslides. Śnieżnica, also known as 'Widlata Góra' due to its three distinct summits, has a small, partially filled cave called Piwnica (Cellar) hidden in a dense beech forest. Peaks like Jasień and Kudłoń are famous for unusual rock formations, including crags, towers, and cudgel-like rocks made of hard sandstone.
Two notable peaks in the Mszana Dolna region are included in the Crown of Polish Mountains. Turbacz is the highest peak of the Gorce Mountains and a part of this prestigious list. Additionally, Lubomir (804 m) – Highest Peak of Beskid Makowski is also included in the Crown of Polish Mountains.
The region offers a diverse network of hiking trails catering to various difficulty levels. You can find moderate routes like the Luboń Wielki loop from Królewska Góra or the Lubomir loop from Węglówka. For more challenging options, consider the Turbacz head loop from Hucisko or the Mount Ćwilin – View of the Tatras loop from Mszana Dolna. Many trails pass through scenic glades and offer panoramic views. You can explore more options in the Mountain Hikes around Mszana Dolna guide and the Hiking around Mszana Dolna guide.
Yes, Lubomir is notable for its astronomical observatory, which is open at certain hours and adds a unique scientific and historical dimension to your visit. The peak's name, possibly from the German 'Zwiling' (twin), also suggests historical German settlement in the area.
For beginners, the green trail from Przełęcz Rydza-Śmigłego to Mogielica is a popular and relatively accessible route. Getting to Śnieżnica Summit shouldn't be a problem for anyone, for example, by the green trail from Gruszowiec. Many trails leading to mountain huts, like the one on Maciejowa, are often less strenuous and well-maintained.
If you're looking for a challenge, Szczebel is notable for having one of the steepest trails in the entire Beskids, particularly if you use the black trails. The approach to Luboń Wielki Summit from the Glisne pass (red MSB trail) is also described as difficult, with poles recommended for assistance.
Visitors frequently praise the stunning panoramic views, especially from peaks like Turbacz and Mogielica. The presence of charming mountain huts, such as the PTTK mountain hut on Maciejowa, which offers delicious cake and a cozy atmosphere, is also a highlight. The diverse landscapes, from forested summits to scenic glades and unique rock formations, contribute to a highly appreciated outdoor experience.
Yes, the region around Mszana Dolna is excellent for various outdoor activities. The PTTK mountain hut on Maciejowa is an excellent base for cycling and skiing in addition to hiking. In autumn, peaks like Lubogoszcz are known to be great for mushroom picking. You can also find road cycling routes, such as the Beautiful climb by Majdówka loop from Mszana Dolna, detailed in the Road Cycling Routes around Mszana Dolna guide.
Lubogoszcz is a particularly popular walking destination for Mszana Dolna residents. A recommended hiking route involves ascending via the red trail and descending along the green trail, a journey that takes about 5 hours and offers a great local experience.
