I love this church. This was one of the top 5 highlights on our west Slovenia bikepacking tour. We had great views of the valley below and the mountains. A nice spot for a lunch/snack, and we had beers with us.

An obvious objective from Kranj, Šmarjetna gora's wooded flanks rise steeply from the banks of the great River Sava in the Upper Carniola. It's named after the pretty church that crowns its summit, Sveta Marjeta (Saint Margaret). The top is also home to Hotel Bellevue, which serves food and drink. The views are splendid, with a mixture of flat pastures, rolling, wooded hills and the distant peaks of the Julian and Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

Tolsti vrh or Zaloška gora, as it is called in places on the south side of the village Zalog at the foot, is the highest peak of Kriška gora, an elongated ridge between Tržiška Bistrica in the west, the Lomščica valley in the north and the Gorenjska plain between Trstenik and Križe in the south.
