Josip Štefančić
December 28, 2025, Mališćak Mountain Shelter

The Mališćak mountain shelter is located in a forested part of the Papuk mountain, at about 734 meters above sea level, not far from the peak of the same name, which is known as a beautiful viewpoint. The shelter is located along one of the frequent hiking routes that lead from the village of Velika to the higher parts of Papuk, including Ivačka Glava, making it a popular resting place for hikers and excursionists. The facility is a brick, two-story hiking shelter that is constantly open and serves as a shelter from bad weather and a place for a short break or overnight stay. Inside, there is a basic furnished area with benches and a table, while upstairs there is a dormitory with beds, with a total capacity of about fifteen people. The shelter is unstaffed and does not have a permanent source of drinking water, so hikers are recommended to bring water and other equipment with them. Thanks to its location, the Mališćak shelter offers a peaceful environment surrounded by the dense Papuk forest, and there is also a viewpoint nearby with beautiful views of the Slavonian landscape. The shelter is maintained by the Mountaineering Association Mališćak from Velika, which takes care of its functionality and availability to all lovers of nature and hiking.
