The reservoir is located along the Caia river, in an area with extensive olive groves, and has a total storage capacity of approximately 126 million cubic meters of water. This water reservoir is sufficient for the irrigation of agriculture and the water supply of the population of the three municipalities it serves (Campo Maior, Elvas and Arronches).
