When looking at the castle from the outside, it is worth looking up. On the walls, you can still clearly see the characteristic oriels protruding from the facade. They served a very prosaic function – they were the castle's medieval latrines (toilets), from which waste fell directly down onto the castle slope.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Napoleonic soldiers stationed here devastated the castle, turning it into a ruin. It was saved from complete demolition by a local legal advisor, Ferdynand Tymoteusz Gregorovius (father of the aforementioned historian). He initiated the great reconstruction of the facility in the years 1828–1830, in which a court and a prison were established. In 1945, the castle burned down again after a Russian bombing and had to wait until the 1960s for its present-day splendor.

On the square, you can find a charming element referring to old traditions – a sculpture of the Nidzica lamplighter, faithfully accompanied by two small dogs.

In the 15th century, today's square was one of the most important points for the exchange of goods on the border of the Teutonic Order and Masovia. Nidzica held the so-called "staple right," and the largest crowds gathered here for the annual August fairs.

The former Castle Brewery in Nidzica is one of the most interesting examples of industrial architecture in the city, with origins dating back to the second half of the 19th century. The facility was built in 1868 and originally operated under the German name Schlossbrauerei Neidenburg (Castle Brewery Nidzica). For decades, it played a significant role in the local economy, and at the beginning of the 20th century, it was considered one of the best breweries in the region, producing up to 25,000 hectoliters of beer annually. https://grupabiwakowa.pl/dawny-browar-zamkowy-w-nidzicy

The Brewery – Winery was built in 1868 in place of a filled-in city moat, on the walls of an older brewery. In the city center, right next to the defensive wall, next to the windmill tower, whose foundations are marked in the roadway of ul. Ratuszowa. The building is free-standing with its front facade facing west, erected in a rectangular plan, to which an protruding annex adjoins from the west, preceding the entrance from the north. The annex is modern, with a three-pitched roof, covered with red tiles. The building is basemented, four-story, built of ceramic brick. The mass of the building is broken down into individual sections of different heights. Part of the eastern facade is obscured by the annex. The brewery roofs are covered with Dutch tiles, roofing felt, and galvanized sheet metal. A two-axis insert covered with a shed roof is visible in the roof plane. A tall brick chimney with a square cross-section stands by the southern facade. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was the best brewery in the area. After World War II, it was used as a lemonade bottling plant until 1956. In the meantime, it was devastated and the original brewery equipment has not been preserved. A Winery and Mead Production Plant was established in the brewery in 1958. The brewery is classified as a monument of 19th-century industrial architecture. https://nidzica.info/browar

Klasztorek – is one of the oldest buildings in the city. It is a 14th-century southeastern defensive tower. Consisting of two rectangular, adjacent parts of the structure. A three-story tower to the east and a two-story section to the west. The tower is covered with a hipped roof and the western part with a three-sided roof. The entire lower part is made of stone walls, as a relic of the city's defensive walls. The upper part is built of Gothic, red brick. Julian Gregorovius states that in the accounts of an official from 1561, it was called the "old monastery" and was proposed as a school location "because it was suitable for it". For a long time, it was known by the name of the monastery school – Klosterschule, for church personnel. In the 18th century, it was barracks. From 1746 to 1780, it housed a garrison of Prussian dragoons from the 10th Regiment, whose commander from 1754-1785 was Major General – i.e. brigadier general, who was promoted to the military rank of Lieutenant General – Friedrich Ludwig Graf Finck v. Finckenstein. After them, it served as a granary until 1914. Russian artillery fire on 22.08.1914 burned down the monastery. Rebuilt as part of "Osthilfe" in the 1930s. In 1942, a library and a cinema were established there, among other things. Burned down again in January 1945 after Neidenburg was occupied by the Red Army. Rebuilt in the years 1967-1988. https://nidzica.info/klasztorek

Klasztorek is a Gothic defensive building, located in the southeastern corner of the city and belonging to the city fortifications. Originally, its eastern part served as a corner tower. In later centuries, Klasztorek was used as a school for lower church staff, barracks, a city library, a cinema, and even a granary. This monument, destroyed in 1945 and rebuilt in 1967-1988. Currently, it is in the resources of the Nidzica Commune. Klasztorek, located in the city center, has been empty since 2018 and no activity is carried out in it, causing it to slowly decay. https://mostthemost.pl/nasz-zabytek-warminsko-mazurskie-2022/nidzica-klasztorek/
