Is actually only worth it if you are there anyway. The best thing is the view from the opposite slope.

The ruins are beautifully situated on a hill in the middle of the forest ... not much of it is left, but you can still imagine what it used to look like here

Former castle complex from the 13th century The Anwil ruin was once a large, two- to three-storey residential tower with a cistern, outbuildings and fortifications in the form of a deep ditch in the north-west. Archaeological findings suggest that the building was built in the middle of the 13th century. The castle complex went through different construction periods as well as a destructive attack: in 1387 the castle passed from Katharina von Röta to the brothers Ulrich and Eberhard von Sax. In 1406 the Appenzellers plundered the "castro Anwile", destroying the outbuildings of the residential tower and filling in the cistern. Almost 40 years later, the castle is mentioned again. At that time, the castle was lent to Ulrich von St. Johann and his son Hans, who sold it to the Helmsdorf knights in 1463. Anwil Castle was finally renovated one last time by Laurenz Kunkler, who acquired the complex in 1608. Source Google
